  1. first thing i would do is find out exactly where the dampness is coming from, once thats been distinguished, if it is indeed due to next doors extension then a letter to them sayin basicly its your responcibility to rectify the problem, if they dont, which i doubt theyll do as of the cost implications, then you can take your case to a solicitors or ask your local authority (council-building control) and work from there.
so, if they caused the problem then they have to fix the problem
oh and if they built the extension illegally, ie they didnt get planning permission and a granted building warrant from the local authorities then they do not have a leg to stand on in court and i reckon they would be made to pay for ALL the damage done to your property

  2. There are companies that specialise in damp problems, you need a proper survey done by one of those.Unless next doors extension is touching your house it is unlikely to be the cause but there may be run off from their roof.It really does sound like condensation through lack of ventilation inside or a very cold wall so cavity wall insulation my do the trick if its not a very old house ,older houses had solid walls

  3. I highly doubt the next door being the cause). VENTALATION will help by opening and leaving open (by a crack) the windows. Having the windows open a crack will do wonders in getting rid of the inside moisture. Not immediate (2days or so). Hot air holds more moisture than cold and if that place is warm inside, the moisture makes itself known when it hits the cold walls. So on those walls that are damp……they need more insulation plus a vapor barrier. ( A vapor barrier is to keep the moisture (from the inside of the house) away from the structure members and the insulation.)
That is how much moisture there is.
Nothing to do with the rain outside, that is what your outdoor plaster or brickwork protects you from.
