  2. I agree with the community tank answer you got but just to put my two cents in, male bettas don’t like fish friends. Too many attacks on their long finnage by other fish which sets up stress and disease. I’ve had female bettas in a community tank that did fair. They did try & attack the male guppies’s tails.

Just about any communiy fish will fair well with a male betta, as long as he is the only male, and the tank has enough foilage, and or ornaments for the betta or other fish to retreat to if so needed. The only excetion to this would be any member of the barb or angelfish families because the are notorious for fin nipping and harrassment. Female bettas can also be kept with him in that large of a setup, as long as there is enough cover for them, because the male may harass them a bit, and they will need to hide from time to time.
